A 12 Year Old Drag Queen - Resilience and Fun

By Yvette Vignando - 23rd August 2011

A 12 year old boy in UK entertains his village with a "Naughty Nora" character during a Drag Queen competition. He does it for fun and his friends think it's cool. Is there really any harm in this? I don't think so as long as it is entertainment and satire and he is not being dressed up seriously in an overly provocative way. I discuss this with Suzanne Mostyn on The Morning Show, Channel 7.

Not everyone finds a drag queen entertaining but as long as this young man is a resilient character and has the support of his parents, I suspect there's no potential for harm at all - and he's a lucky young man to have the acceptance of his parents. I shared some ideas for raising a resilient child - resilience is important for all children but is especially required by children who are seen as 'different' by their peers.
