Do you understand the details of how to set up Facebook safely for your child? What cyber safety settings are important? Where do you find them among all the settings options available? How would a potential scammer or predator find your child's details? Join Leonie Smith, the Cyber Safety Lady, in our free webinar on 15th May to learn about safety on Facebook and other online accounts that your child may be using.
What are the essential cyber safety settings for you and your family?
The average age that Australian children are first seeing porn online is now 11 years old. With a few simple settings you can help protect your child and family from accidentally coming across porn and other adult content online. During this webinar Leonie Smith will show adults where the safety settings are and how to set them up.
Are you getting increasing numbers of scam emails that purport to be sent from your bank or service provider? How about emails where a friend is asking for help after being "robbed" overseas?
If your child's privacy is not protected well enough on Facebook he or she might be giving a potential spammer or email scammer exactly the sort of personal details that will make scam emails look convincing. If a scammer knows your child's birthdate, your full name, your family's names, your location, where your child goes to school, your friends' names, that's all they really need to tailor a scam email to your child that might seem so real that they end up being the victim of a scam.
Most (up to 90%) of Facebook users think they are private and safe on Facebook but are in fact showing some or all of their personal details to anyone with a Facebook account, friend or not. Children that are showing these personal details are vulnerable to being approached by a predator online - your child may think it's another child, and you may never find out. An alarming amount of kids don't tell their parent or carer when they approached by strangers online.
During this webinar Leonie will showing you how to see exactly what a potential scammer or predator can see about you or your child's private details on Facebook, and explaining how these details can be used. Leonie will show you where essential privacy settings are on Facebook - they will increase protection for you and your family from predators and scammers. Information included:
- Skype Privacy Settings
- Safe Search Settings for Bing, Google and YouTube
- Facebook Basic Privacy Settings and Safety Settings.
